Another oldie but goodie, another team I knew very little about. The A’s had moved to Oakland from Kansas City just a few years previous, and their owner/GM Charlie Finley was the Jerry Jones of his time. He wanted to bravado, encouraged the tumult and the attention. And his team was full of it. The first great team to allow the world to know that it wasn’t a big happy family. They openly fought amongst themselves at times. But their play on the field was equal to their egos. They scratched a clawed for this championship. Reggie Jackson ended his season on a home plate slide that helped his team win the ALCS. In the World Series, the team tricked Johnny Bench into a strikeout after setting up for an intentional walk. They used the maximum playoff games to win the championship and set up a mini-dynasty, winning the next two years as well. Must’ve been fun.
